Wake County EMS is updating how they respond to 911 calls starting in 2026. One key change is that lights and sirens will only be used when medically necessary. This reduces accidents, protects responders and the public, and still ensures patients receive the right care at the right time. The new plan also ensures the most appropriate resource is dispatched first. Depending on the situation, the response may include EMS, fire, a nurse call-line or another responder.
