Due to the impending winter storm, Wake County has issued a Proclamation of a State of Emergency to support preparedness and response efforts.
The Town of Zebulon is included in the Wake County State of Emergency by request of its governing body, as provided for in the proclamation, allowing for coordinated emergency response efforts, resource sharing, and implementation of applicable emergency measures.
Town departments and partner agencies are coordinating resources and preparing for potential impacts, including hazardous road conditions, power outages, and other winter weather concerns. Public safety and public works teams are staged and ready to respond as conditions change.
The safety of residents remains the Town’s top priority. Community members are encouraged to limit travel when possible, especially during periods of ice and freezing conditions, to allow emergency and utility crews to operate safely.
Residents should avoid downed power lines and remain alert for localized flooding as snow and ice melt. If your power goes out, please contact your electric service provider to report the outage.
The Town has created an Inclement Weather FAQ page and will continue sharing updates through the Town’s website and official social media channels. Please follow these platforms for the most up-to-date information regarding Town operations, delays, closures, or event cancellations.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (F.A.Q.) - Winter Weather in Zebulon: What to Know
What winter weather most impacts Zebulon?
Snow, ice, and sleet can cause dangerous roads, power outages, and unsafe travel.
How does the Town prepare for winter weather?
The Town prepares based on current and changing weather conditions. Plans may change as forecasts change.
Town staff stays in direct contact with the National Weather Service, Wake County Emergency Operations Center (EOC), and other partner agencies to coordinate efforts and serve the community.
The Public Works Department plays a key role in winter weather response. Crews monitor forecasts and treat roads when conditions allow. Brine may be applied ahead of winter weather to help prevent snow and ice from sticking to the road. Equipment is staged in advance, and salt or other materials are used as needed during events.
Will roads be treated?
Yes. When conditions allow, Public Works crews apply brine before expected snow, ice, or freezing precipitation. Brine helps reduce ice buildup and improves road safety.
Some conditions, such as heavy rain or quickly changing temperatures, can reduce the effectiveness of brine. Crews continue to monitor road conditions during the event and are ready to apply salt, sand, or other materials if needed.
For your safety, avoid unnecessary travel during winter weather. Follow guidance from emergency services and stay home when possible while crews work to treat roads.
Will Town Hall close or adjust hours?
Town Hall may close, open late, or operate on a modified schedule if conditions are unsafe. Public safety services will continue to operate.
What about the Community Center and recreation programs?
Decisions are based on weather conditions and road safety. The safety of instructors, participants, officials, and staff is a priority.
When possible, decisions are made the evening before or the day of an event. If conditions change, decisions may be made closer to start times. Updates for basketball games and practices will be posted on QuickScores.
How will closures or cancellations be shared?
Updates will be shared on:
• The Town website
• Official Town of Zebulon social media
• Parks and Recreation communications, when applicable. (For Athletics information, https://www.quickscores.com/zebulon)
Are there shelters or warming centers?
Wake County monitors weather conditions and community needs. Town staff remains in contact with the County during winter events.
If needed, Wake County may open a shelter or a facility to get out of the severe weather. Any confirmed openings will be announced by the County and shared by the Town.
What should residents do during winter weather?
• Limit travel when possible
• Avoid untreated roads
• Prepare for possible power outages
• Check official Town updates before going out
Who should I contact for emergencies or outages?
• Emergency: Call 911
• Power outage: Contact your utility provider
Please do not call 911 for power outages or non-emergency issues. This helps keep emergency lines available for those who need immediate help.
